Laser Cutter/Engraver for Design Class (Baker High School)
As we know, students are much more motivated and perform better with hands-on learning experiences. In a skills-based class, like Multimedia Design, the students have the opportunity to use some of the Adobe Creative Cloud applications on a daily basis. We would like to enhance the learning environment by adding a laser cutter/engraver system to the classroom. The laser cutter would give the students the chance to create their own images and designs with Photoshop and Illustrator, and apply those creations to all sorts of materials - acrylic, wood, rubber, stone (yes even stone), leather and many other materials. It will open up a world of possibilities for our Career Tech and Robotics students!
We will use the machine to teach technical skills and about the basic operation of a business by actually selling what we make. The students will gain a better understanding of design, marketing, sales, production, and business finance. The Robotics team can use the machine for manufacturing gears and pieces for the robot. They are also required to create a prototype which could be built with the laser in order to market their robot.
Learning is not all about figuring out your ABCs and 123s. We want to teach how to use those basics. This Project does exactly that by marrying practical application with 21st Century Learning. Our students deserve nothing less. Thanks for your support!
