This project aims to build an audiobook library complete with paper copies of the books and devices (MP3 players) on which to listen to the books.
Research proves that children who read have an advantage as they are exposed to new vocabulary, language structures, and knowledge that may be outside of their individual reading levels. Listening to books read aloud is also a pleasurable experience and builds each student's love for reading. The listening kits (complete with student/teacher selected audiobooks, paper copies of the books, and MP3 players) built through this funding will be provided to struggling readers, helping to foster a love for reading and close the gaps in learning.
Audibooks will be purchased through Audible. Books will be purchased through Scholastic, Amazon, and local bookstores. MP3 players will be the SanDisk 8GB Clip Jam MP3 player, with silicone cover. The goal is to provide 6 listening kits for struggling readers.
